BOY SCOUTING
Boy Scouting, one of the traditional membership divisions of the BSA, is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.

Each scout will get to pick 4 merit badges [Soaring to Eagle counts as one merit badge slot] and the Camp guarantees they will get the 4 they pick if the form is turned in by the deadline.  The order of the merit badges classes is not guaranteed.

Scouts are encouraged to do the long term projects recommended in the Merit Badge pamphlet prior to camp.  Scouts should bring red cellophane to cover their flashlights in order to preserve night vision.  Must attend night viewings to complete badge.

 

 

Aviation

 

Must be a 3rd year camper and/or at least 13 years of age

 

Basketry

Taught with Leatherwork

Requirement 9 may need to be completed before or after camp.

A basic knowledge of knots, lashing, and splices would be helpful.

 

 

Pottery

Reptile & Amphibian Study

Requirement 8 should be completed prior to camp

 

 

Rifle Shooting

The badge cannot be completed without the merit badge pamphlet.

Must be a 3rd year camper and/or at least 13 years of age

$1 per 10 shots, includes shells and targets.  $10 expected depending on skill level of marksman.

Rowing

Must have swimmer’s rating.  Scouts will need to bring a pair of long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

 

 

Shotgun Shooting

The badge cannot be completed without the merit badge pamphlet.

Must be a 3rd year camper and/or at least 13 years of age

$2 per 5 shots, includes shells and clays.  $20 expected depending on skill level of marksman.

Small Boat Sailing

Must have swimmer’s rating

 

 

Snow Sports

Scouts will need to wear long pants while skiing

 

 

Soil & Water Conservation

Taught with Fish & Wildlife Management. Scouts will need to complete requirement 7 before attending camp.

 

 

Space Exploration

 

 

$16-20 for rocket kits and engines

Swimming

Must have swimmer’s rating.  Scouts will need to bring a pair of long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

Must be a 1st Class Scout and at least a 2nd year camper and/or at least 13 years of age

 

Weather

Taught with Oceanography.  Requirement 8 should be completed prior to camp.

 

 

Whitewater

Scout must have canoeing merit badge and a swimmer’s rating.

 

$5 transportation fee for river trip

Wilderness Survival

Scouts may need to complete requirement 5 before camp.  The scout will need a pocketknife, hiking boots, and canteen.  Must attend an overnight campout to complete the badge.

 

 

Woodcarving

Scouts may bring their own pocketknife and sharpening stone.
